For the first time in its 20 year history, the NSW Landcare and Local Land Services Conference is heading to the far west! Held over the 22-24 October, this year’s adventure takes us to  Broken Hill where we will join some of the most passionate, innovative and engaging people from around Australia.

And to make this conference more accessible to the next generation, the Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is working with Intrepid Landcare to support four young Landcarers to attend.

About the BCT…

Approximately 70% of the land in New South Wales is under private land ownership. This is why staff at the BCT believe that conserving biodiversity on private land is of the utmost importance if we are to maintain healthy, productive and resilient environments across the state.

The BCT aims to protect and enhance biodiversity in several different ways, including:

  • Encouraging landholders to enter into agreements with us to manage and protect natural environments on their properties, particularly in areas where there is significant biodiversity.
  • Facilitating a biodiversity offsets program to compensate for the loss of biodiversity due to development or other activities.
  • And finally, by increasing public knowledge, understanding and appreciation of biodiversity. We want everybody (young and old) to be just as fired up as we are!

Since coming into existence in 2017, the BCT has entered into agreements with over 95 landholders, conserving more than 19,700 hectares! Specific animal species that are protected within these conservation areas include koalas, spotted tailed quolls, regent honey eaters, squirrel gliders and the superb parrot.

We want to see these stats improve even more, which is why we are engaging the incredibly capable and creative land-carers of tomorrow. The BCT is offering to sponsor four Intrepid Landcarers to attend the 2019 NSW Landcare and Local Land Services Conference in Broken Hill!

What is covered?

The BCT will cover:

  • Your full conference registration (including field trips and awards dinner)
  • Flights or fuel (negotiable on acceptance)
  • Accommodation

All you need to do is have a passion for conservation, be between the ages of 18-35 years, and either be actively involved in Intrepid Landcare or Landcare in your community and willing to share your insights and experience of the conference.

How to apply…

To apply, submit an EOI by the 11th of August 2019 (midnight) by clicking here

Successful applicants will be notified by the 16th of August so please keep in mind any leave from study or work you need to arrange to be able to attend the full conference program.

This ensures that all funds are appropriately allocated to flights and accommodation with the correct names at the time of booking.

If you are successful…

If you are successful in your application you agree to produce the following as part of your attendance at the conference:

  • A short film or article about your time at the conference which will be shared on a number of platforms and potentially in the broader media

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to network with other people who care for Country and we can’t wait to have you on board to share in our appreciation of all things biodiversity conservation!
