We have a pretty epic line up of activities including connecting to the local environment, meeting local legends, and inspiring young speakers doing great stuff for the environment. Hiking, cultural activities, Landcare activities, leadership and personal development training, and more!

This event is perfect for young adventurous souls who love the environment and are keen to do stuff that matters. Application to attend is essential, as there are limited spots.

To make these opportunities accessible to as many young Australians as possible, successful applicants are being generously sponsored by Geelong Landcare Network and Corangamite CMA through funding from the Victorian Government Victorian Landcare Program. This sponsorship covers all catering, accommodation and a carefully packaged leadership development program tailored to meet the needs of young people passionate about the environment. So we do ask that you take this commitment seriously before applying.

You must be able to attend the entire weekend (6.00 pm Friday 14th September – 5.00 pm Sunday 16th September). We can help facilitate transport if you do not have private transport, and will do our best to assist with any other needs you might have, just let us know what they are.

IS THIS FOR ME

  • Are you between 16 and 35 years, have an interest or already involved in environmental conservation activities?
  • Keen to take that interest to the next level?
  • Curious about what is already happening across the Geelong and surrounding region, and love meeting new people? Then YES. This is totally for you!

WHAT WILL HAPPEN

Led by award-winning national Landcare leader, and Intrepid Landcare co-founder Megan Rowlatt and Environmental Scientist and Science Communicator Toni Stevens, you will be exposed to a weekend of fun and adventure, exploring and meeting rad new people, hearing from inspiring legends who are doing great things for the environment, designing ways you can step up and create opportunities for you and your peers to work towards a more sustainable future, and you will be immersed in pretty spectacular nature.

BUT I’M NOT A LEADER…

By being the change you want to see in the world totally puts you in the leadership category whether you realise it or not. There are many amazing young people around Australia leading on the change they want to see in their communities and for the world, whether it’s occasionally volunteering and sharing their messages in a blog or on social media all the way to leading regular teams of volunteers to carry out exciting conservation projects or creating projects or campaigns in their school or university for others to get involved in. We are here to help you discover and develop that further, or create something completely new. The possibilities are endless.

Here’s what others have had to say about the Intrepid Landcare Leadership Retreat experience…

“Reflecting on the weekend spent on a leadership retreat with the amazing Intrepid Landcare. I felt incredibly privileged to be accepted and to be surrounded by so many inspiring people looking to create change. We learnt how to make fire, make rope from native plants, heard from an incredible aboriginal leader, and had so many discussions about the environment and what we can do to save it. I spent most of my life turning a blind eye to ‘the greenies’ but the more time I spend in nature, and appreciate the incredible impact it has on me, my confidence, and my happiness, I realise I cannot just take from it. It’s time to give back! Here’s to 2018 and the start of making a difference.” – Brooke, South West Sydney Retreat

“I expected something entirely different- and I’m glad my fears were unfounded. It was an incredible experience and far exceeded my expectations. It really focused on personal development in an experience-based way- we were being spoken with, not at.” – Participant, Western Port Retreat

“Intrepid Landcare was one of most phenomenal weekends of my life. It was so refreshing to meet like-minded, inspiring and caring young people from my area that before the retreat I had no idea even existed. Megan and Naomi were so humble, enthusiastic, genuine and encompass all that it means to be a great leader. Their seemingly effortless ability to bring together 20 strangers and create long lasting bonds and friendships over the course of a single weekend is a massive asset to their powerful duo. Moreover, their capacity to engage and empower every one of us, connect us to relevant networks and create and believe in our ideas was truly invaluable. I can now proudly say I’m part of the tribe and cannot wait for what’s next!” – Jordan, Gippsland Retreat.

“I found the Intrepid Landcare experience totally enthralling and amazing. If you are ever interested in doing more in your community you should totally get involved. Even if you are already active in your space I would attend. It’ll develop your skills in unimaginable ways! It’ll empower you to effect the change”. – Participant, Western Port Retreat

“The Intrepid Landcare Retreat was a complete mind shift. Not only did I get to connect with like minded and passionate people, it was really inspiring to hear the story of Intrepid Landcare and empowering to understand how I can can contribute”. – Mel, Western Sydney Retreat

“Before this retreat I was not feeling the best about the environment and generally uninspired. The positive minded people gave me a sense that change is possible when you take the right steps and we are more powerful than we think!” – Participant, Western Sydney Retreat
