10:00 am 05/11/2016 - 06/11/2016
To celebrate all the hard work they’ve achieved through 2016, Illawarra Intrepid Landcare will be throwing an epic escarpment party!
So put your party pants on, load up the esky, and head into the mountains.
But don’t forget your work boots, because there’s a whole heap of invasive ginger to take care of. And we need to get onto that before we pack up the tool box and head off for an awesome summer.
If you didn’t make it to our previous Corrimal Colliery project, you missed out. John and Jill did an amazing job of hosting us for a camp out, bon fire and tunes, and we took on some epic exotic ginger which has the potential to absolutely take over the understorey of the rainforest.
John and Jill have been dedicating their time and energy to bringing back the rainforest at this site for the last 5 years. There’s nothing but pure passion behind these guys who head up to the property every week, sometimes every day, to remove the weeds, plant native trees, shrubs and grasses and explore the property and document the wildlife.
This site has over 100 years of mining history, it has been highly modified and degraded and now has a huuuuge weed problem! But there is hope and once you see what just two people have achieved it will blow you away.
Come and join us in celebrating Intrepid Landcare in the Illawarra with a massive day of weed removal, learning about the mining history and land restoration, exploring the property, hiking up to Brokers Nose, and having a big camp out on the escarpment with food and music and some damn good company.
