NextGen Landcare Summit and National landcare Conference 2025

Still buzzing after the 2025 National Landcare Conference 🌱

Day 1 kicked off with the NextGen Landcare Summit, bringing together more than 160 young adults and supporters from across the country. The energy was hopeful, bold, and full of ideas – a reminder of what happens when young people are given the space to connect, share, and lead 🙌.

We then joined in on the 2 Day National Landcare Conference and learnt about some of the sectors projects and the people who make it happen. The Landcare Conference is the biggest conference in the sector.

By the final day, the closing panel brought us back to the same message:

💬 “When we talk about the next generation, it’s not an ‘us’ and ‘them’ situation. Simply put, it is within ‘our’ best interests to support and resource the next generation of landcarers.”

That spirit ran through the entire week – young leaders stepping up with courage, creativity, and care, shaping the future of Landcare right now.

With generous support from Melbourne Water, Goulburn Broken CMA, Jo Clay, Landcare ACT, and Landcare Tasmania, 14 Intrepids received funding towards their flights and accommodation. It wasn’t enough to balance the bank, but it took the sting out and meant they could make the trek to the Gold Coast to add their voices to the national conversation 🙌

In total, 31 Intrepids from 7 groups – Brisbane, ANU, Mornington Peninsula, Upper Goulburn, North East Melbourne, Tasmania, and Adelaide – were in the room, representing their communities and bringing fresh energy to the movement.

We met each other face to face which was powerful to bring the groups and the national board together. We made new connections with not only other young people but those in the sector that we can bring back to our groups, driving the movement forward!

Getting young people in the room matters. These opportunities don’t just happen – they’re possible when people and organisations step up to back the next generation with real support.
